Week 9 in the East
TOR Wraith @ TB Typhoon
As they entered the match to try to keep their playoff dreams alight, the Wraiths were 6-2 and the Typhoon 3-5. While the Typhoon got numbers on the board first, the warning to watch the Wraith’s defense was not a bad call. Tampa Bay was kept to just two field goals until the Wraiths got the first touchdown, followed by another after a quick turnover soon after, ending the first half 14-6, Wraiths.
TB’s TE Travis Vaughn would get them a touchdown in the third quarter, unfortunately they would not succeed in getting their two-pointer attempt. The score would stay at the final score of 17-12 Wraiths, and Jax James (Wraiths QB) would rightly earn a good nod for player of the game, gaining an impressive 90% completion rate- the only rookie to do so. (in this era)
NY Mafia @ Charlotte Royals
In a match of defense and turnovers until Quarter 2, this game’s first score was again a field goal, by the undefeated Charlotte. In one of those plays you wonder “what if,” a Mafia (1-7) missed long pass did not lead to a needed answer for NY, and before they knew it Charlotte could take their time in their next drive and bring the score to 9-0. Blink again, and Charlotte’s DE Shabazz Harris-Holmes got a sack, and Charlotte would then score again by the end of Quarter 2. NY would score by the end of the second quarter, and hoped that would lead to momentum for the second half, but the Mafia would be kept at 10 points overall, Charlotte 27. The Royals’s RB Doc Boone would get longest carry, Mafia’s WR Kareem Washington longest catch at 50 yds and Royals’s MJ Whitten.
NJ Battalion @ PIT Roughnecks
Pittsburgh began with nice drives and catches by Sanchez and Clawson in the beginning, albeit with a big drop and almost pick in the end zone moments later, but it still ended on a happy note for the Roughnecks getting a TD via WR Anthony Stank. The quarter would end however with NJ answering and tying it up with 53 seconds left. But, the Roughnecks would answer yet again with a score and then with a big sack by LB Austin Wheeler and then again in the very next play. The second quarter would end with yet another TD for Pittsburgh near the whistle for the first half, ending that half at 21-7.
Fast forward and Pittsburgh will hold NJ to just one more field goal. In a game of a couple sacks on both sides, PIT showed it can recover faster, with a few long completions over 20 yards credited. Both teams would kick successful field goals and a touchdown by RB Hawk give you the final score of 34-7.
