Week 5 Matchups

by J Mack

Week 5 is upon us, and we have a few good games upon us. Teams are starting to establish their identities and players are laying their foundation for award cases. Last week was my worse week I finished the week 2-4. On a bright note, outside of the HBV and Toronto victories, games are near the O/U mark. This week is the week I go 6-0.

-New Jersey @ Tampa Bay (-3.5) O/U 44.5

Tampa Bay played NY tough, but it blew the league at the end and New Jersey continues to lose and has the second to last defense in the league. One of these teams will get their first win this week and the loser will be the only winless team in the league. New Jersey has yet to establish an identity this season while Tampa knows Wilson and Khoko can get them in the endzone on any drive.

Prediction TB (-3.5)

-Huntington Beach @ Toronto (-2.5) O/U 51.5

HBV and Toronto meet once again. These two teams have met in the last two United Bowls, and they look primed to do it again this season. Last week HBV put 73 points on the scoreboard and only gave up 13. Toronto put up 48 points vs a then undefeated Charlotte team. These teams rank 1 and 2 on both sides of the ball. HBV comes into this game with an overtime loss on their record while Toronto is the last undefeated team. I expect a back and forth match up with Toronto defense coming up a big stop at the end.

Prediction Toronto (-2.5)

-Charlotte @ New York (-1.5) O/U 55.5

This is a big time Eastern Conference matchup. Both teams share a 3-1 record and they both know their identities on offense. Both teams want to get week 4 out their system. Charlotte defesne almost gave up 50 and NY had to overcome a winless Tampa team to win. I expect both teams to come out firing and a physical battle. I have no idea how this game will play out, but scared money makes no money so if push comes to shove, I’m going to choose NY. They are on a 3-game winning streak, and I expect them to walk off the field as the victors.

Prediction NY (-1-5)

-Dallas (-2.5) @ Pittsburgh O/U 49.5

Both teams are still trying to find its footing. Dallas was a high-flying offense last season, but they find themselves in the middle of the pack this season, Pittsburgh has only 1 win on the season and neither side of the has stood out on a consistent basis. Dallas laid a goose egg after beating the defending champs and came out flat last week. Pittsburgh got their first win last week and needs to build some momentum to catch up in the playoff race. This game is another tough game to call. Both teams want this win to keep track in their respective playoff races. I trust Dallas offense the most in this game and I don’t think Pitt can match them point for point.

Prediction Dallas (-2.5)

-Detroit (-27.5) @ St. Louis O/U 48.5

Two other teams don’t have a win on the season but it’s hard not to think STL is the worst team in the league. They let an angry HBV team put up 73 points, and they are facing a Detroit team that has a top 3 defense and offense. Detroit didn’t wow anybody with their week 4 performance, but they won and that’s name of the game. This game won’t be pretty, and I expect a big showing from Detroit.

Prediction Detroit (-27.5)

-Tacoma @ Anchorage (-5.5) O/U 46.5

Tacoma is playing better than expected but that hasn’t equated to wins but they are showing a foundation and later in the season I expect them to pull up major upsets. Anchorage has responded nicely since their week 1 lost and sits at 3-1 and if they win coupled with a Detroit and HBV lost, they will sit atop the Western Conference, the chances of that is low but it shows Anchorage is still right there and is trying to make the playoffs for the second consecutive year. I expect Anchorage to continue their winning streak and pull away in the 2nd half.

Prediction Anchorage (-5.5)

Last week:2-4

Season: 16-7

GOOD TEAMS WIN. GREAT TEAMS TO COVER.
