USFA to NFL QB Comparisons
Hello, USFA! Wanted to switch up the article setup with a bit of a series, we all love professional football and there's always going to be comparisons from league to league and that is where this will come in.
Each QB has their own strengths and weaknesses and this will start out in the QB position to see where they compare to their NFL counterparts!
Keep in mind that this is not an indication of how each player has made their respective teams grow in their leagues, more of an ability matchup and how they operate on the field. Its opinion based so try not to take it to heart if its a QB that you don't think matches up.
TYLER DETHERAGE - HUNTINGTON BEACH VOYAGERS
NFL QB COMPARISON - TUA TAGOVAILOA
This one is a bit more difficult but you really can't argue the fact that both are on MVP caliber seasons. Their playstyles are very similar, more of a pocket passer, can run on occasion, a cannon of an arm and the vision to get the ball where they need to be. They also thrive in similar situations with game-breaking WRs all around to help the offense elevate their games as a whole.
AARON IKE - NEW YORK MAFIA
NFL QB COMPARISON - JOSH ALLEN
Both QBs hold a similar frame and playstyle. Your prototypical gunslinger with a sneaky strength and finesse combination that will keep defenses guessing. Similar to Detherage, they both have the arm to stretch any defense and the WRs to make things happen to help elevate their play. Big body QBs so they can take those hits, get back up and take the top off of the defense.
HANK FALCO - CHARLOTTE ROYALS
NFL QB COMPARISON - KIRK COUSINS
These two QBs thrive in the intermediate and deep passing attack to their weapons along with a strong emphasis of the play action with their game, solid at maneuvering within the pocket to get the ball out in a snap. Some issues avoiding sacks at times due to the OL play but still a top tier QB that you can never sleep on.
ACTION JACKSON JR. - ARIZONA RATTLERS
NFL QB COMPARISON - DEREK CARR
Derek Carr seems to be a solid fit for AJJ, they seem to thrive in a short to intermediate game of passing with the occasional deep ball to their loaded WRs. Not the best of rushers with the football and has the ability to move the ball down the field. Wouldn't call them a physical talent when it comes to putting it in any spot on the field but in a proper offense can make your team a playoff team.
MONEY MILLS - PITTSBURGH ROUGHNECKS
NFL QB COMPARISON - GENO SMITH
Geno and Money are streaky performers that can get the job done in most cases but does make that occasional bonehead play that can make you scratch your head. Not scared to put it in some coverage and can throw on the run if needed. They're also in a similar tier of talent with them being capable starters. Solid tier 2 or Tier 3 QBs right here depending on the day.
DJ CHURCH - DALLAS DRAGONS
NFL QB COMPARISON - SAM HOWELL
The biggest comparison between Church and Howell is that they have a big problem and that is they both take PLENTY of sacks. Church can pass the rock but can be a bit too aggressive at times depending on overall pressure on him and the same can be said for Howell. That being said, they both have a "gamer" mentality when it comes to the QB position which can make them a fun QBs to watch.
JAX JAMES - TORONTO WRAITHS
NFL QB COMPARISON - ANTHONY RICHARDSON
The youth movement is strong and both have very high ceilings within their respective leagues. Both are great with their ability to find their "happy place" to get the ball to their WRs and they have the ability to run the football for huge gains with their out of the world athletic ability. I can see A-Rich and JJ being around for a good long time because of it!
ZAIRE AUGUSTUS - NEW JERSEY BATTALION
NFL QB COMPARISON - CJ STROUD
A rocket and dazzling passes all over the field, mobile to make those throws on the run and a swagger that can't be bottled up, CJ and Zaire has a lot of similarities. They also both have a cold-blooded release to their form which make them stand out from the rest of the pack. Two young QBs with bright futures!
DANE JONES - ANCHORAGE SNOW DEVILS
NFL QB COMPARISON - JALEN HURTS
It makes sense to have one of our speedy QBs match up with one that can get the job done with his legs, Jones is a lethal runner with the football although he doesn't get the best chance to utilize that skill as much. The both have a great arm to get it to their receivers but one of the premiere dual threat guys we have in the league.
SHAWN BRIDGES - TACOMA ERUPTION
NFL QB COMPARISON - DAK PRESCOTT
Two veterans that have all of the talent in the world but they have similar paths with how they approach the game. Has the wiggle room to throw on the run if need be be they both have issues of keeping the ball on their side of the field. Dak and Shawn have a game that focuses on the intermediate routes and do a lot better with a run game that can make those 3rd downs easier.
JIM CARR - ST. LOUIS ARCHERS
NFL QB COMPARISON - JOE FLACCO
These two QBs have three major comparisons, being that they are essentially statues in the pocket, they're not QBs that can throw on the run AND they thrive in a system that have their WRs go deep. In this stage of their careers, Flacco and Carr are also Bridge QBs for a team that is still searching for their QB of the future.
JAMES WEST - TAMPA BAY TYPHOON
NFL QB COMPARISON - RUSSELL WILSON
This is a fairly easy one to make with them both having the ability to tuck the ball if need be. Both QBs are in the later stages of their career but is highly effective with their ability to change the tide of the game with both their legs and their arm.
