Top 15 Players in USFA History (No. 15)

by Jade Carpenter

Over the years that the USFA has been in action, starting with 5 small teams to now with 12 teams and more potentially in the wings, players have rose and fell. In an independent poll from the admins, they were asked to rank their top 15 players of all time within the USFA's 10 season history.

This is the beginning of their results with number 15 of 15. But first a few honorable mentions who received votes but couldn't quite make it onto the top 15.

17. QB Nick Lockett - HBV - Retired
16. MLB Arne Jakobsson - CHA

Lockett became best known in the league during season 2 when he lead the Huntington Beach Voyagers to their first of many championships and tied Rebecca Montagne in voting for QBotY. He would eventually lead the Tacoma Eruption to their second championship in season 5 before retiring in season 9.

Arne Jakobsson has always been in the conversation as one of the best LB's in the league but outside of winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and United Bowl 3, he's failed to win any other major awards. Instead just providing a steady top 3 LB presence every year.

And now for our number 15 spot...

K - BRENT SCOMA - ANC

Selected with the 10th overall pick in the season 4 entry draft by the Tacoma Eruption, Scoma has been a journeyman through and through. With stops in Tacoma, St. Louis and Anchorage so far in his 7 year career. He set a career high with the St. Louis Archers in season 6 in extra points made and attempted, and field goals made and attempted. Making 24 of 28 field goals and 34 of 35 extra points. At the time of this writing with stats still being imported from older seasons, he has 40 games played, 58 of 69 field goals made and 83 of 86 extra points. Putting Scoma amongst the highest scoring kickers in league history.

On the punting side of things, Scoma has asserted dominance in that area as well. With a career high of 61 punts for 2714 yards coming in season 8 with Anchorage. Scoma has won two united bowls in his career so far with Tacoma in season 5 and St. Louis in season 7. He's also won kicker of the year once in season 5 with Tacoma.

Scoma hasn't retired yet, but entering year 7 the clock is beginning to hit the later half and the pressure is on for him to continue adding to the hardware shelf to further distance himself from others who seek to take his spot on the top 15 list, or even just the title of best kicker/punter in USFA history.

Be sure to tune in next week on Monday to see who comes in at number 14!
