QB Drama In Pittsburgh

by Jade Carpenter

Pittsburgh has been around the league now for 4 seasons. They have yet to earn their first playoff birth and this season won't break that trend. The Roughnecks will instead watch their former QB James West, who now plays for Tampa Bay, compete for a United Bowl before they do. The replacement for West was supposed to be ECFL legend Jim Carr, and after going 2nd overall in the S7 draft, Carr hasn't really lived up to expectation.

Now rumor has it that Carr was left exposed by Pittsburgh in the recent expansion draft and are in the market for a new QB. Carr however, is still signed through the upcoming season 9 at a price of 2 million. If Pittsburgh was serious about getting a new QB this draft would they be ok with taking on another dead contract? They're still going to be paying off Madongus Magna 500 thousand next season and this would add an additional 1 million in dead salary for the next year.

Carr himself hasn't had anything to write home about stats wise. The only reason he's in the top half passing wise is largely due to his receivers carrying the load for him. His 119 total incompletions through 8 games this season leads the league by a comfortable margin. So do his 6 interceptions. In his rookie year he had the worst completion percentage of all QB's and it's appearing like it would be more of the same this year if the numbers hold.

But if Carr isn't playing in Pittsburgh next season, is it safe to assume he'll be out of the league entirely? Pittsburgh definitely needs to find success, and soon. Two more expansion teams from season 7 are making the playoffs this year, before the Roughnecks have made an appearance. If Carr's seat isn't hot it needs to be. Either he needs to be the catalyst to this teams offense next season or he needs to get accustomed to watching games from the sidelines, or worse his couch.
